Scout Guide
This is your Scout Guide. Mainly geared towards new boys, this will answer some of your questions, provide information to help you get requirements, and provide information on things we have not explicitly explained before to the whole troop.
The Ten Essentials:
Pocketknife
First Aid Kit (not just bandaids)
Rain Gear
Extra Clothes
Compass/Map (navigation)
Water (at least 2 liters, around 64 ounces or 2 Nalgenes)
Trail food
Sun protection (sunglasses, sunscreen, hat)
Fire starters (flint and steel/matches)
Flashlight (with extra batteries)
When Should YOU Wear Class A or Class B?
Class A:
-Troop Meetings
-ANY troop events
-To and back from Campouts
-During flags (in and out of camp)
-service events (parades, flag planting, etc.)
-some service projects (some emails will indicate appropriate attire)
-patrol meetings (depends on patrol leader)
When you wear Class A, you are expected to wear all of the items:
-Class A Shirt
-Neckerchief with woggle
-Belt
-Green Scout Pants
-Green Scouts Socks
-Close-toed shoes (not sandals, not crocs, wear sneakers, casual shoes, hiking shoes, etc. [wear appropriate shoes at certain events] )
-Pen and paper (yes this is mandatory!)
-Scout Hat
-Sash (wear during Court of Honor, your Board of Review, or any special occasions)
Class B:
-around the campground
-during hot days
-during strenuous service projects or events
-patrol meetings (depends on patrol leader)
Flag Calls:
When your patrol does flags, a member of your patrol (usually the patrol leader) calls out a set of memorized commands to the colorguard (the scouts that march to the flag posts and put up the flags). The colorguard perform specific actions when specific commands are called. Know and memorize these calls just in case you end up calling them out one day.
